An HVAC ultraviolet germicidal irradiation device uses UV-C energy at a selected location inside an air handler or duct. In residential systems it is commonly positioned to irradiate a wet coil or drain-pan area; effective air-stream disinfection requires engineering around intensity, exposure time, airflow, placement, and system design.
A correctly selected and installed UV device can be one part of a broader moisture and HVAC hygiene plan. It does not remove dust, correct water intrusion, replace filtration, or substitute for physical cleaning, and it should never be sold as a guarantee against illness.
Consider UV only after the system, moisture source, intended target, electrical requirements, lamp access, and material compatibility are reviewed. Lamps lose output over time and require cleaning and replacement according to the manufacturer—not merely when they stop glowing.
